British International Investment (BII)

British International Investment (previously CDC) – the UK’s Development Finance Institution – was established in 1948 and joined EDFI in 1992. It is the world’s oldest DFI. BII is a Public Limited Company and is wholly owned on behalf of the UK government by the Department for International Development (DFID). Its mandate is to support the growth of businesses and jobs creation across Africa and South Asia.

BII concentrates on the low and middle income countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Prioritised sectors are manufacturing, agribusiness, infrastructure, financial institutions, construction, health and education. BII also has an office in India.
