CSIS in partnership with EDFI wrote a report last fall on trends in development finance for the private sector. When EDFI was set up 25 years ago, DFIs played a modest role in development policy and few anticipated the growth in private investment in emerging and frontier markets that followed. Now, CSIS estimates that the investment activity of bilateral and multilateral DFIs could surpass Official Development Assistance (ODA) within five years. Many of the trends described in the report have deepened over the past year, as the environment of DFIs continues to change.
